I wonder if anyone takes into account NHRA prostocks use very light oil..............less than 20wt, infact down in the 10wt range. Granted they change oil after every pass or two.

The oems spend thousands of dollars on durability testing, if 5w-20 did not hold up, they would not use it. Yes it helps fuel economy, but it does pass the harsh testing they subject the engines to. There are a few exceptions like the Ti-VCT Ecoboost which uses 5w-30, and the Boss 302 that uses 50wt Mobil 1.

I use 5w-20 in the winter and 5w-30 in the summer, never had any issues.

exactally.. fswerks even states with their stage 2 and stage 2+ kits to use 5w20 only....

I think since it doesn't actually lift anything the correct term is a hydraulic lash adjuster. But old people like me are want to call the part that rides on the cam a lifter even when technically it may not be.

I don't because those engines have almost nothing in common with what I do. They may, perhaps, prove the point that lightweight oil can provide adequate protection even in the most stressful environments, but as to whether that should be any part of your decision on what oil to run, I say no.

In case you have not found it, if you go to the BITOG main website there is a Motor Oil University with 10 chapters you can read that is very interesting and may give you more information to help decide what oil to run. A)You are talking a motor spinning over $10k rpm.
B)You are talking about people looking for every possible edge in performance, with no care for longevity of the motor.
These engines are rebuilt after every event, and often times have valves and other components swapped in between individual runs.

Yes I know, I have friends on a few teams. The point is 5w-20 will not hurt our engines.
