Update to my fuel mileage..

After a 5,000 mile trip to the West coast and back, my average fuel mileage went up as it should. A couple of times during the trip, I got as much as 42 MPG doing 80 on I-10 in the middle of Texas. It seemed to be at peak efficiency between mid 70's to 80 on the highway. Not bad eh?

And by now, the car feels like it's more "broken in" after the trip :)

That's still hard for me to fathom - we drove up to MI a couple weeks ago and the mileage actually kept dropping going a steady speed (70ish) on I-75. I reset the meter right before we got on the highway and it was up to 35 MPG at one point but had dropped to around 32 MPG after driving 200 miles.

Certainly hoping it changes for the better after a couple more thousand miles...

Was this recent? If so I wonder if it has something to do with Winter formula gas. When I was up in WI a few months ago, I filled up in Milwaukee and my MPG's dropped from 35 to 29 on the highway. Once I filled up in Central IL, my MPG's came back. Or maybe I ran into a bad batch of gas, which is weird because I stick to name brand (Tier II) types of fuel.

My stats on Fuelly show the results..as I log every single fillup since I've owned the car.

Not a 2012, but for comparison...

For those complaining about bad mileage just keep an eye on this:

The last fuel-up was 75% highway, the rest were 50-50, so it's about 57% highway and 43% city so far. Total of 1176 miles driven in a little over 2 weeks.

Looked for it in the app store and didn't find anything specifically called Fuelly but there were tons of other mileage programs. I'll never remember to get on the computer and update it, but if it were on my phone I'd always remember! Anybody know if Fuelly or any other mileage manager has a good iPhone app?

To make this on-topic, I'm only on my second tank of gas and have ~500 miles on my 2012 SE hatch. Averaging around 26.6 - 28.1 in mostly city driving, plus I live in the mountains. Hey, compared to the 16 we get in our Liberty and the 20 I got in my Kia Spectra that I traded in on this beauty, I am VERY happy!
