Good stuff

Not finished putting it together, but the new, new cylinder head seems good. Much better looking than the first one with the mushroomed lifter bore.

Angry Not another parts problem!

Minor one, though, except for the cost.

Just got my first OEM Ford parts order in, from one of the mailorder places recommended here on FF. I needed the battery hold-down strap, but it is only available as part of a battery tray kit (3S4Z10732BA). Well that arrived, not in an original parts pac, minus the strap of course! Another grrrrr ...

E-mail sent.

Barring another illness, etc. setback, hopefully a good day and a half ahead working on the Focus. I still need to yank that block out and take a look-see inside the bottom end. Wish it was 30F or so warmer outside, though, so I could have the windows/doors open.

Unhappy Not that much fun yesterday

Got too busy on other things.

But did have another tiny victory -- installed the new antenna mast. Looks much better without the cracked-up rubber.

Did finish prepping the head -- unlike as mentioned somewhere on this site, the little factory dabs of paint on the lifters are to point toward the oiling holes (direct from the Workshop Manual), and _not_ necessarily all toward the front. On my engine, that meant in opposite directions for each cylinder. Need to pick up some more assembly lube, running low; in the old days we'd use STP Oil Treatment, but the proper lube sticks better/longer. The FSM says to use a particular thick grade of oil -- bad advice, IMHO.

Also removed the engine-to-right axle bracket and the crank position sensor, and shot Liquid Wrench on the exhaust bolts in preparation for removing the cat and under engine head pipe today. Also saw another coolant line that I should order and replace.

Hopefully a big day today! Gotta go get the space heater going ...

Question Q: Pulling the dipstick tube out?

Q: I know it's press-fit into the block; any tricks on getting it out? No bracket down low, but was one up high to the long-gone intake manifold. Tube wiggles ever so slightly, and have it soaking with Liquid Wrench.

In for a lunch break, then back out to make the first attempt at pullin' the block. The cherry picker is all hooked up, and the cat and lower two block-to-bellhousing bolts (and bracket) are out.

With the oil pump still on, I have 2.5 inches clearance on the front of the engine, but the clutchpack is at least 3 inches as felt through the starter's hole. So it is looking very likely I'll have to unbolt the pressure plate to get the block out, and then install the new oil pump after I put the block back in. Time will tell ...

Lots of good pics in-waiting.

Talking It's pulled out!

More details later, but it is out! With the clutch pack attached. And now on the engine stand for disassembly and inspection of parts.

So, yes, the engine can come out the top, without the transaxle. And even with the hood still on the car!

Lots of great sequential pics taken, that I still can't upload here yet.

Just tried -- nope, still won't let me. A week or so?

Hope to upload descriptions of the latest developments tonight. Was too busy researching and ordering parts last night.
