My '12 SE Picture/Project Thread

Door trim, round 1:

As shown in the last post, I was able to pick up a few rolls of vinyl so that I could play around a little. I specifically chose yellow and teal, as those are the primary colours of the car (Paint, and lighting/decals, respectively). There are some ideas I've been meaning to try, and vinyl will let me experiment. If I come up with a scheme I really like, then I can send things off for paint.

Tonight I started, by changing the colour of the trim on the front doors. For reference, this is what I had - silver.



Drawing some inspiration from iND's 1M project, in which a touch of the orange paint was brought inside in the form of the steering wheel trim, I decided to first try the yellow to approximate (Read: it won't match yet) a colour match.



To start, the trim had to come off. A small flathead screwdriver, with the tip covered in tape to protect the plastics, easily popped the clips out.



If you want to remove these, start at the front and work your way back. The rear of the trim slides into place in the door card, with the tab shown below. Remove the clips at the front and middle and then pull it out.




Now on to the actual vinyl. The trim wasn't too bad to work with, aside from some tight corners. Some careful trimming cleaned them up and they were good to go back on.




Now wearing a covering of yellow, they slid and clipped back into place and I could start to get an idea of how Yellow Blaze trim would look. Again, these are not and weren't meant to be colour-matched just yet. This is a trial, to see how I like the contrast against the interior. I still have some playing around to do, with additional trim and colours. (Plus my friend is awesome and let me have this for free, so I can wrap to my heart's content.)





Overall, I don't think it's too bad.

Subtle coloring like that in the interior, I like that a lot. People painting everything a different color, that is just unappealing to me.

yes, less is more. the little things have more of an effect that big scale items.

It's just plain yellow for the time being, but rather than paint it's vinyl.

As they come out. I want to wait until there are a few choices on the market, and I also want to see if anything becomes available that I can order through the parts counter at work.

But yes, performance will be addressed.

My thoughts exactly. As mentioned, I have a few schemes in mind that I want to try, but with the yellow I'd like to offset it with some Piano Black trim as well, I think.

Last night was my car club's first meet of 2012. After dinner we headed to the university parkade for a late-night photoshoot, where a few of us happily snapped away for a little while. I had my camera with me, so it was also an opportunity to take up more memory card space with my yellow sedan.

And of course, that gives me a chance to put up even more pictures.

Yesterday I received the liner that I'd ordered.



I discovered that while the S and SE sedans are left with bare trunk lids the higher SEL and Titanium examples receive liners from the factory. I felt that the exposed trunk lid looked a little unfinished so I did some searching for part numbers and ordered the pieces. This week they (Well, most of them) arrived. Two bags of clips are on their way, as I only have one so far. For the time being my liner is held in with just the four, the rest will be put in as soon as possible.

I find it odd that the new North American Focus SE doesn't come with a standard trunk lid liner.
I believe in other markets even the low end Focus and Fiesta sedans have trunk lid liners.

You have a nice car, looks awesome in those pics.
I wonder what the next modification will be. :D

A friend in the UK, who just bought a '12, likes to remind me of how silly it is.
