Spi to zetec

Swaps are always fun! My first was a V-8 Vega. Well, go-carts and minibikes before that ...

I'm rebuilding the SPI, so it will be interesting to total the costs. In my old age, I now prefer to keep an otherwise good car "numbers matching".

Interesting decision to install a used engine as is. I always at least go through such, and usually replace the rings, bearings, oil and water pumps, belts, etc. unless I previously knew the engine really well. But so far, so good with yours!

Well... I took the junk yards word for the 70k miles. We took a peek at the timing belt , it was in excellent condition and cams minimal wear, and when I turned it over by hand it felt good. Started right up and has run great for the last 2k miles since swap so I am very happy how this went. Building new turbo zetec now to replace this next year.

For the cost of the swap and time invested, research needed, waiting for the parts to arrive, lost sleep thinking about "what else did I forget", and down time.............Why not just buy a Focus with a Zetec ? Junk your old car and recoop some of the expense. I understand the whole "do it yourself" makes you feel good, but there comes a time when cost and reality come to terms. I'm OK with a rebuild but not a swap where the cost to buy ratio is 1:1

I can understand where you are coming from but the junkyard values is less that kelly blue book. Mine at 91k is in $1700 to $2000 (Fair - Good). Deals and private sellers aren't going to sell a zetec focus for less than 3 to 5 grand (Fair - Good). I use to work at a dealership so this is how they price and buy cars and if they can't make money on it then they won't make an offer.

I was thinking about doing that spi to zetec swap but im looking on here and its gonna be more expensive than i thought. best of luck! i think if im gonna pay that before having my upgrades installed. i'll just see what this performance shop of beach side would charge to built a complete race engine. at least if they build it they give it a warranty or so they claim. we shall see.

Hey guys forgive me if this question was asked already...

I have a 2003 ford focus LX sedan with a 2.0L SPI, with a manual 5 speed transmission; I'm looking to swap to A 2.0 Zetec DOHC vin 3 in this car. Would my original manual transmission work on my proper swap, ?

Also , how can i identify my tranny?. Incase you guys need that information as well..

No it won't boltup, that's an ib5 and the zetec and duratec both use a mtx75. But the bellhousings are different between the two so you need a zetec specific bellhousing which I believe you could buy a duratec mtx75 and swap it out for a zetec bellhousing and vice versa but I would only do that if its any cheaper than just buying a zetec one.

oo ok thanks for that info, i have another question, what can i salvage from my spi, so that i can use in the zetec swap?
