Want to change Class

Well the Houston, TX region is coming to an end ...

Myself and fellow FocusFanatic member, Zab, will be running our 11th event this weekend and then the last event for the year is the first weekend of December.

For next year, I was thinking about jumping into a different class besides ST ...

So, what do you guys think about DSP?

My Mods:
- 16" Rotas
- Hankook RS3 tires 225/50/R16 - they have a few more events before they need replacing
- H&R Race Springs
- Eibach shocks ... I am actually ordering the KYB Adjustables next week ... I wanted to give them a try since everyone else does the Koni's. I am going to finish up the rest of the Eibach Shocks for the rest of the year.
- Stock Front Sway Bar ... I have the Eibach front sway, debating on putting it on or not.
- Eibach Rear Sway Bar 25mm
- Short Throw Shifter
- All of the VFE Poly Motor Mounts
- K&N Intake
- XCal Tune ... need a new tune
- 67mm Throttle Body ... yes, I put this on a couple of months ago ... and actually shouldn't be in ST with it ... but I am still battling the Civics.
- ORP ... same excuse ... One of the reason I am thinking of a new class ... to be fair and all.
- SPC Drilled and Slotted Rotors.
- I have the Adjustable Exhaust Cam, but haven't installed it.

What else am I allowed to do to perhaps run in DSP?

In the Houston region, the people in DSP here are a couple Chevy Cobalts (Non-SS), a few Integras (surprisingly very slow drivers) and a neon.

I think I would have a better chance in there because of their weight to power ratio as oppose to me battling light-weight Civics in the ST class ... but I will say, they definitely push you hard. I've won 2 Events against these quick civics ... but only 2 ... Myself and Zab pride on taking them down.

But what are your thoughts ... a bit of guidance.

I've been AutoX-ing off and on for 3 years ... but this year ran every month except last month. Losing our friend Izzy, took the joy out of AutoX-ing for the month.

Next year you can run in STF, so I'd give that a shot.

can he run the ORP and TB in STF?

Ray, if you're going to an SP class (most likely the SVT will be moving to FSP) it is a must you run r-comps. those get very pricey so i would consider that before jumping ship. oh and camber plates up front help with tires!

edit: i'm surprised you don't have any BMWs there in DSP.. those seem to be at the top of the class nationally.

Didn't see the ORP, FSP it is.

Camber plates are a must.

Hmm ... so, I can't run the ORP in the DSP Class?

The Integras in that class have ORPs/straight pipes.

STF, huh?? I don't believe we have an STF class. We have the ST classes as this: ST/STO/STU/STX

STU is our unlimited class ... pretty much everything goes but tires. And STX has no limits what-so-ever. Which a very quick Del Sol, Late 80s Civic Hatch and a Lotus run in. Yup a Lotus in our STX class. But these 3-4 guys actually play leap frog on each other and are usually part of the top 10 in the PAX game and in speed of course. They scare me ... at the moment. One day, I will have the balls to try and compete against them.

the ORP is fine in FSP, just not STF/ST

STF is a new class being proposed (i think it got the go ahead, not sure) it separates those pesky Si's you've been chasing. it's basically a class for FWD pigs.

i've heard the best street tire class for the SVT is STX, but i think that has changed with the addition of STF. IMHO street tire classes don't really benefit the SVT since the power is just about maxed out from the factory.

Hmm ... yeah, I was looking at buying the HFC and selling the ORP ... that way I get a CAT back in the car and it still flows as well as the ORP.

I have a couple of months to figure it out. I decided my XMas present to myself was to prepare the car for Next Years AutoX.

Two changes that will most likely occur (99.9%) likely are:

-SVT focus moved from DSP to FSP
-Creation of STF class
-All ST classes will have listed allowable cars (like STR was this year)

Copied from fasttrack:
Change the ST listings in Appendix A:
“Only cars which are specifically classed are eligible for competition at National Tours and the National Championships.”
Street Touring FWD (STF)
Acura RSX
Acura TSX
Ford Fiesta
Ford Focus (all)
Honda CR-Z
Honda Civic (2001-2005, all)
Honda Civic (2006-2011, non-Si)
Honda Fit
Kia Forte/Koup
Mazda 2
Mazda 3
Mazda 6
MINI Cooper (non-S)
Mitsubishi Lancer (non-turbo)
Scion tC, xA, xB
Toyota Corolla (1998-2011)
Toyota Yaris
VW Golf 2.5

So there you go ^^
