(i.e. correct shift drum positioning)

From the TSB that you posted:

THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN ADAPTIVE TRANSMISSION SHIFT STRATEGY WHICH ALLOWS THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER TO LEARN THE TRANSMISSION'S UNIQUE PARAMETERS AND IMPROVE SHIFT QUALITY.

As you can see, the TCM "learns" and adjusts for mechanical tolerances of the clutch and transmission assemblies.
Whatever it is supposed to learn at 2300 miles mine has still not learned. Apparently from the size of this thread many others have not as well.
Ford knows this or they would not keep releasing programing updates to try and FIX it.

Ok, some background first, May 2011 build, no updates performed to transmission currently, and so far I have loved it. However, I have begun to experience some "bucking" only during the upshift to 4th. Doesn't seem to matter whether I'm on the throttle hard or not. I finally got the recall/technical program letter in the mail, and have scheduled to have it done. Just wondering if anyone else had something similar and if the update helped. FWIW I still love the trans, and am hoping the update improves the "S" mode as some on here have experienced.

I'd like to know if this "adaptive learning" is hardware + software, or if this is just software in the PCM. Whatever it is, one of these pieces is broken. If I can disconnect and reconnect my battery, and the bucking/slipping/slamming into gear goes away until this thing "re-learns" again, there HAS to be an issue with the adaptive learning itself.
That's not to say there aren't problems with the transmission still, because I think there area, but nobody seems to be pointing to this "Adaptive Learning" thing as the root cause....and I'm thinking it has to be, what with what I just described with the battery pull.

I took my car into the dealer this past week for the transmission acting up....after searching the system for updates, checking the transmission for leaking fluid, I was told that what I was experiencing (bucking/jumping/slipping) may just be "normal behavior of the dual clutch transmission"....that was straight from the Ford technicians mouth. Yeah...ummm, ok.

It is unusual but if there was a leak, you want to get it fixed. If it is going to be in the service dept for a while, did you ask for a complimentary loaner or a rental?

I hear you but your main concern should be that it is fixed properly. If possible, get to know the tech working on it. Ask questions to learn more about the DCT. I have an excellent relationship with my tech. He services my 11 Fiesta SES and my wife's 12 Focus Ti.

I plan to continue to let him service my Focus ST once I have it.
