Same here, but I need everything working 100% in case I decide to sell the car; which I am seriously on the fence about right now.

I've lost all confidence in MFT and Fords ability to fix it.

Now I am thinking I'd rather have a nice AWD Subaru and I'll build my own damn Infotainment Center.

I'm pretty much in the same boat.

Except I'd like sell my car and purchase a Ford Escort for $500 and use the money saved to purchase freescale and make new software for this car. Unfortunately, I'd have to take a $6k hit which is NOT something that I'd like to do right now. Also, I wouldn't have this car anymore and would have little-to-no way of testing said software... I'm in a weird place right now.

Yea, I've thought about looking for a replacement car ... but the hit is devastating (First job out of college ... can't afford a $6-7k loss) at this point. My 'original' plan was/is to keep the car for 5 or more years. Now I might be lucky to keep it past warranty.

That's the unfortunate reality of purchasing a new car. I was fortunate enough to pick up my car on the D-plan so the hit would be minor, and I own most of it due to a large down payment.

I really really really want to build my own infotainment center now. Touchscreen, automatic climate control, windows, door locks, bluetooth, wifi, voice commands, etc... Yeah, I can do that.

We can haz team?

I'm a mechanical engineer by day, but if I'm stuck with a broken infotainment system for 6+ months... I can probably lock myself in my room and put SOMETHING together.

Soooo Android? Linux? Windows? (I don't think Ubuntu is supported)

I'm going Android.

Android, that's exactly what I was thinking. You know the other saying? There's an APP for that! Google maps, traffic, and voice recognition would already be covered. I have an Android development environment set up on my home workstation.

Interfacing with the car? Easy, there's Arduino, Netduino, Pi, PiC, and ODB2/Canbus modules aplenty.

I think I see a mutiny coming.

Only one thing, the final product can't have any rounded edges or Apple might sue us.
