Running 14's na...second gen.
I'm sure this had been discussed several times before, but can a 08' S 5-speed break into the 14s with all the bolt ons (cai, header, exhaust, intake manifold, tune). I'm only asking because I'm deciding wheather or not to stay na or go turbo.

It is possible but difficult. A member on fj went 14.2 I believe with a cold air, header, FSW 2.5" exhaust, drag radials, tune, LSD, and weight reduction on the extreme in a ZX3 with a 2.3L. This was also at what some consider to be a fast track (Cecil) in a colder part of the year when the air was more favorable. With the 2008+ models being a bit heavier and with the 2.0L, I don't know. You would probably need the Cosworth manifold to get there.
I know it's not what a lot of people like to hear but by the time you buy everything you would need to go mid-14s NA, you could buy a used turbo kit + tuning and go mid-13s. NA will never give you the same bang for your buck, unfortunately. I didn't put any money on NA parts. I saved up and went turbo from the beginning. My first mod to my car was the FSWerks stage 2 turbo kit.

Thanks. I know turbo is the biggest bang for the buck and have nothing against it at all, I've had 4 turbo cars already. I just wanted to do something different. What is the weight difference of the 2nd gen to 1st gen? I have the lighter S model and thought I read somewhere that it weighs 24xx lbs

That's wrong though. The coupes are listed at 2588lbs w/ the 5spd. '08 + are stiffer and lighter than 1st gens.

Wow, yeah Motortrend says 2,588lbs for the base model Coupe S. I stand corrected. That's still heavier than my car with me in it and a full tank of gas. lol

The answer to the question is "No"
A stock SVT has 30 more horsepower and doesn't run 14's. Those bolt-on mods will net you less than 30whp for a grand total just shy of 150whp. Weight reduction would be the biggest factor but I still don't see it happening. Low 15's maybe, if you slam the gears hard enough, or maybe skip breakfast that day. Oh, it is also worth noting that since you have a 2008, your car will be inherently slower than 2009 and newer models due to a different final drive gear.
