Its 3/4 an inch shorter with I think 30% less throw (Not sure on that one) But I measured my throw difference (Have had it in an out about 5 times) and its about 3/5 and inch shorter distance. I love it but a nice addition it going to be that VF- Rear engine mount. It will slam the gears just great but you will feel every twist in the engine bay when you really get on her good.

(But great post and nice Tutorial!)

WD40,

One thing you don't state in your tutorial, (but it is obvious), is that you DIDN'T take out the entire center console to do the installation.

I just got done putting mine in yesterday (Steeda Tri-ax $97.31 incl tax-ship from New Edge Performance) and the instructions that came with it, had you taking out the ENTIRE center console in step One!!! So I looked at your tutorial and saw that you didn't take yours out. I followed your lead, and I'm glad I did.

I already know that's a chore to do, since I took it out b4 to install my armrest (very happy with btw)

So, for the record, you can do this install without taking out the whole console.

Thanx 4 the help.

Actually, from the first post in my thread:

You’ll also note, I was able to do this install without having to remove the entire console,
which also appears to be a “bone of contention” with previous installers.

Cool

Excellent post! I sometimes have problems hitting 5th and 6th gears, especially going from 6 back to 5. Does the shorter shifter help that situation. Does the shorter shifter make reverse any harder to hit?

WD40,

Sorry about that. I didn't read all of that first part. You are beyond reproach.

VERY happy with my STS!!! Everything about the shifting process has been improved so much, it almost doesn't seem like the same tranny!!!

This is a MUST DO MOD!!! No question about it.

Yes, on the 6th to 5th, because the "slop" between the gears is greatly reduced.

No, on the reverse engagement. However, it's no better either. It's still a PITA.
I found it best to give the shifter a quick "pop" to move it left, then push forward.
"Manhandling" it never seems to work well.
IOW, I hold my hand about an inch away from the shifter, and "pop" my palm onto it.
