Cause...you'd end up with a short shifter, but not a short throw shifter.
The FRPP STS (or Steeda...same thing) also have a revised pivot point which drastically shortens the throws.
You wouldn't have that advantage by just cutting the stocker.

What's stripping?
The bolt head, or the threads on the bolt itself.
I'm assuming the bolt head.
You really need the allen head socket (as shown in pic) and not just a small hand wrench.
By using the socket on a 3/8" drive, you can put a lot more downforce on the bolt head to keep it from stripping.

Dealer most likely.
That's an odd size bolt, especially factoring in the allen head cap.

well I just installed this.
Wow.
The difference is quite a bit more than I was expecting.

But yeah, the installation was pretty straight forward (thanks to this thread- I knew what size torx key to buy!) For those of us with the winter package, taking off the boot is particularly easy. You just reach (your hand) through the "access hole" and push on the clip at the rear of the boot. No screwdriver lever action required.

I just felt guilty hiding the gorgeous pieces from the view. The damn aluminum spacer alone is achingly beautiful.

Ooh, ooh! Guess what I cut myself on! Give you a hint, it wasn't metal.

Yes..you should use the grease in all the places mentioned by WD40 and why would you want to bend the shifter?

If it was to have a bend it would've came with one ;) Just cause the stock one has a bend in it doesn't mean that the aftermarket ones should.
