no do NOT use plastic spray. use duplicolor auto paint. and most people suggest the engine paint because it is more durable. or you could always plastidip(= plastidip actually looks quite nice when cleared over.

I tried submerging the chrome piece on the gear selector in a cup of bleach for several hours and no progress...

Thanks for the write up on how to remove that chrome piece on the shifter. For a while my dash had been wrapped in white carbon fiber and everything else was done except for that piece. Needless to say I just pulled that sucker off, wrapped it to match and put it back in. Took me 5 minutes to do it all. Big thanks.
