Poor car, that hurts.

Traded one as is once after it got crunched, it can be done easier than you'd think.

Wouldn't you know I have a dashcam in the mail, it's supposed to get here TODAY haha, although all it would have been a vid of is a crunching sound and then me going "WHAT THE F*, you ok? "WHAT THE F*, FFFFFFFFFFFFF"

Do wrecks reduce resale value significantly? I've never had one. I have been researching "Diminished Car Value Claims" that I can claim against the other person's insurance (he was at fault obviously), do you think I'll have to do that? My ins person hasn't called me back yet.

Ya wrecks are bad for resale. Sometimes you can pass it by if you get it repaired fully at the dealer, but it looks like yours is going down.

It depends on the dealership whether or not they adjust the trade-in value. If you get the car repaired well-enough that you can't tell, the dealership might be too focused on getting you into a new car to care and offer you full trade value.

Or if the dealer is running any promotions, they're usually too busy to check that stuff anyway.

Don't go in on a wednesday morning in the middle of the month looking for a trade, because that is when they'll screw you over.

definitely go after for reduced/diminished value claims. your insurance will fight the other insurance. sometimes it can be over $1k. most companies don't advertise it, but it's there.

I have already asked my insurance guy and he said they have a team for that, so once the other guy's insurance does their investigation we'll probably pursue it.

22k miles, not a scratch on it (not even rock chips!), now this :( oh well, life goes on! No one was hurt, and we didn't hit another car in front of us so I'm happy about that.

My brother got a couple grand for diminished value on a 2008 Caliber that was rear ended in 2013. I would go for it. It sucks that it happened though, glad everyone is okay though.
