Throttle cable slack

Is it normal to have some slack? I know it is not supposed to be but I don't have any problem with it. It responds when I touch gas lightly.

normal. when your foots not on it the only thing applying tension is the weight of a plastic pedal.

If there wasn't any slack, the engine would rev. up every time it "wiggled" in it's mounts...

NOT what you'd want to happen....

Take Care..

Care to explain that my old vw mk2 wouldn't rev up ever time if it "wiggled" on the mount. The mount is attached to engine so it moves where the engine moves.
The cable are supposed to be adjusted so it is not loose when accelerator pedal is not touched. Therefore there won't be any lag when u press the gas.

Sorry, you just don't have enough experience with cables....

As an old Motorcycle mechanic, i KNOW that the length changes as they are bent - even though in "theory" they aren't supposed to "much"....

With a small amount of movement, a small amount of slack is adequate - but there HAS to be some.....

Ask the person who adjusted out all the "slack", then got scared in the parking lot when they turned the bars and the bike accelerated on it's own....

Sure I accept that I don't have enough experience with cables like you are. My mount is not bent. I just never felt any tension when I checked the cable, obviously the pedal doesn't weight much.
I never meant to say that cable are supposed to be tight, my cable had more than half inch of slack, that just puzzled me. On my volkswagen, I only adjust it adequately so it doesn't open the throttle.

If there is that much slack ... the spacer on the accelerator peddle may be missing or damaged.
There should be a small rubber grommet on the peddle end of the cable. This acts as a spacer and absorbs some of the slack in the cable. If say someone had done a SVT peddle swap or replaced the cable at some point they very well could have forgot this part.
