What's the reasoning for adding Teflon tape? Shouldn't have too. It has on o-ring.

So the screw in sensor must be the upgrade from the push in style sensor.

^^ this. But the screw in sensor came out first on earlier contour zetec from what I understood. Guess Ford decided to go with a cheaper route on this one...

Gotcha, I'm guessing sensor snapped because it was probably overtightened initially, trying to squeeze the thread sealant out.

Yeah , I could have used teflon for the plug underneath the housing ( the one for a second sensor ) cause there's barely no risk of breaking the plug (or the thread in the housing), but the sensor is probably too weak to apply torque against the tape when tightening..

Initially it was put in slightly tighter than finger tight...I'd hardly call that overtightened. Definitely realize that I did not need to use the teflon tape though. I was under the impression that teflon tape was just to seal threads, and did not know that it needed a decent amount of torque to work properly.

I was told by Steve Tousley to use the Teflon. Checked today after 100 miles of driving and no leaks.

When I emailed him the other day with my issue, he advised against using teflon tape...weird.

Yeah, we will see if mine leaks this time. Third time is a charm, I guess...

...and it leaks again. I'm about done with this car; seems like the issues are never ending.
