use 2k grit paper and wet sand it by hand, you want to be thorough and even.
For a polisher you want something like THIS, a variable speed buffer. You DON'T want an orbital like they sell at walmart & autozone, those things are crap and all they're good for is removing wax. I start with 3M super duty rubbing compound and finish with 3M medium polishing glaze. You'll need two separate polishing pads, one for each step. I use foam pads for both, they're harder to burn through the clear with than a wool pad. You'll want a plain white pad for the rubbing compound and a black waffle foam pad for the medium glaze. HERE'S a quick tutorial for ya. Any questions lemme know!

sorry dude, my wife threw her back out so we just got back from the chiropractor and we have a going away party to go to this afternoon. I wish I could come down and help but I just don't have the time right now :(

Oh one more thing to add - you need to let the paint cure for at least 24hrs after painting so it's not still tacky when you go to sand it
