Believe it or not, the housing appeared to be a really strong rubber or plastic. I can't really describe it. The left side came apart as a whole assembly, but you could see gouging from where the tech's had installed it. I have a pic of that, I'll drum it up later.

I have heard the clunk (faintly) after the reinstall.

Plastic/Rubber? In an important suspension center? WTF FORD? Is there a steel replacement? or Aluminum?

I've been following this thread with interest. I have a 2012 SE with about 900 miles on it and I hear a lot of strut noise on low speed bumps but I'm not overly concerned about it at this point. To me it sounds like the noise a strut makes if you didn't tighten the top nut tight enough. I'll wait till there's a definite fix and/or TSB on it before I bring it in. What is upsetting is the response of some dealers and Ford at this point. I don't know exactly what Natasha is doing or who her reports go to but it doesn't seem like Ford is listening yet. How many people need to have a problem before there's a TSB and updated parts? I'm not being negative because I love the car. I have an 03 ZTW with 176k on it and runs perfect which is why I bought this one.

Everyone needs to take them in, so they will take note of how MANY have the same problem. I just found out my Dealer is closing at the end of the month (service already closed as of last friday) so I have to change dealers, I sure hope they are as cooperative as the last, if not Ill be really F'N Pissed.

I know, it sounds really weird. I will try to get some pics up in a minute. I thought I had pics of the bearings that fell out, but I can't find them. You can see the gouging in the pics, the way that rubber would gouge if you rubbed it the right way (makes little balls, lol). Steel inserts where bolts go. Actually, in hindsight, the top cap is rubber. You may have to zoom in to see the gouging, it's circular around the piston nut and washer assembly.

Just had this done on ours along with the wiper motor recall and manual trans recall.

They ended up putting the ears on after I showed the what the sound was (They couldn't hear it at first) and then did TSB 11-11-2. After doing a few things, eventually Ford authorized throwing parts at it. They basically replaced all the components short of the left strut: coils, strut mounts and right front strut. They fixed the issue and we verified it is fixed for now. Very happy with these guys. John Kennedy Ford in Sanatoga. They've been stellar so far and I'm very particular since I've been a long time car guy.

Yeah mine was on the right side too. It's funny though because the noise was coming from the left....at least everyone who heard it says it was. Oh well I'm just glad it's gone.

Why is the HELL would FORD replaced only one strut??? 2 upper strut bearings/mounts......ROTFLMAO and 1 shock....good gawd...... Shocks typically are replaced in pairs. FORD IS NOT coming clean here. A current TSB is necessary ASAP to resolve this rattle.......last night it sounded like the whole gig was coming apart......

While I agree, I think you have accept that they're only going to replace what they have to. Very odd to replace everything but one is odd to me too.
