It varies.

One thing to be aware of, there have been reports of an annoying DSG transmission noise that sounds like loose marbles and follow-up reports
that it is normal for the design.

Darth_Focus,

I see from your profile that you live north of the border. I highly recommend calling the Ford Canada superstars @ 1-800-565-3673. If you’ve already called, please drop me a line with what they said.

It's not a thud, but more of a knocking, a loose, but heavy vibration of sorts.

Because everyone describes it so differently, it makes it tough to define.

Mine sounds like a rattling brake caliper. Its funny how 6mos ago when they replaced the springs. I assumed it was both. The noise was on the passenger side but now, 6mos later its the driver side. Makes me wonder if they only replaced the parts on the one side only. I'll have to dig up my old paperwork. I just can't imagine owning the car long term with a serious design flaw like this and not a word about any permanent fixes. Frustrating!

It does sound like a caliper, but it seems to not be.

Looks like im gonna let a dealer have another go at it. The ford RSM has been calling me regarding my posts here. We will see what they come up with this time:)

I rented another focus this week while out of town...this one a 2013 hatch se. Almost 9000 miles on it...and zero clunk...as buttoned down as can be.

DSG was flawless too. But mine has been as well. It's the clunk issue that is really ticking me off. Ford must have a clue. I have rented several over the last year...one even had over 15000 miles and zero clunk. They were either SE or SEL models.

Is this what i get for buying the top of the line Titanium? What. The. Heck.

I would say that's what we get for having a "Handling" package car. The majority of the clunking cars are SE-Sport pack (2012) and TI handling package cars.

If you're looking to blame the alloy LCAs on the handling pack, don't. The '13 SE gets them standard now.

From all my digging, fixing, and tweaking, I'm pretty certain that the welds joining the strut tower to the firewall sheetmetal are the source of the issue. It's likely a problem they fixed in production, but won't apply a fix for early production cars due to difficulty in maintaining standards for the fix and the labor involved.

If I'm right, it's not something that can be fixed with a simple parts swap; it will require additional spot welding or the injection of some sort of caulk or epoxy.

Agreed on where the problem is, but it is true the majority of cars with this problem are the SE-Sports and TI- HP cars...but Ford needs to get off their A55 and either get us a Fix or give us a New car sans clunk with same specs as our current model.

I brought mine to ford but they heard nothing. However it wasn't to loud that day. Mines worse the warmer it is. I'd like to know how dealers are not automaticaly aware of this issue. These are the days of the internet. They can't possibly ignore this. Certainly they know of these forums.
