can we spec out a Grade 8 bolt to replace into it, or do they need to be stock bolts?

Without knowing the specs of the stock bolt I can't recommend changing them for something else that may not behave in the same manner when loaded or in the case of an accident.

Good point, they may have a shear spec in case front collision.

UPDATE:

After a few cold morning drives (below 35F), I can say that I have no strut noise. YMMV--mine had just started making some noise so my mount and bolts might be in better shape than those who have a more dramatic noise for a longer period of time.

Thankfully, I also got rid of my door rattles over the weekend so, except for a heat shield rattle that I will soon fix, my car is nearly quiet again.

What was the nature of the heat-shield rattle?

It's a bit hard to explain, but I'm not sure it would do any good to anyway, because I'm not 100% sure it's a heat shield. It has a tin pan-like quality, and it goes away very quickly as this warm up.

Hopefully I'll know more after looking at it this weekend.

Mine clunks hot, cold and in between. The left was the original culprit and now I hear the right chiming in. I am going to wait to see if Ford or an aftermarket bearing redesign comes to market. If not then I will replace with OEM mounting hardware/bearings with better springs and dampners. Mine actually sounds worse when it is cooler outside.

MK3 Focus - Noise when riding over speed bumps?

Hi I have recently bought a used 2011 Mk3 Focus (1.6 125 zetec).

I have noticed that when riding over speed bumps/ramps (i always take them pretty slow :)) that there is a kind of crunch/scraping noise but i cannot identify what it may be. Although it does seem to be comming from the front of the car.

The car is in good condition and has done just over 4000 miles (bought used from Ford Dealership).

I have had a look under the car and cannot see what would be causing it, there is a cover underneath the engine bay but this does not seem to be loose as far as i can tell.

In all other respects the car drives and handles fine, the tyres are at the correct pressure also. My concern is there may be some sort of underlying issue with the suspension.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so did you manage to track down the casue?

Thanks for taking the time to read through...
