On mine it's the drivers side that rattles.
Did the TSB and was better for a short period, but it was hot then. Now that its cooling off its REALLT sounding off. Until it gets warm that is.
In my mind that means that the rattle is not the bearing. What gets hot in the strut bearing? Nothing, right?
My rattle is big and loud when its 60 degrees (cold for southern cal) and disappears at 80 degrees of twenty minutes into driving.
After poking around extensively I say it's probably the shifting mechanism that is located on the drivers side. Those parts make the exact same sound, and its loud. Those parts are loose and then when the trans gets hot they are not loose. It takes a while for the trans to get hot. At least that scenario makes some actual sense.

My question is, does the automatic have a mechanism like that? I'm talking about the linkage that connects the shifter etc.
If so, is it on the passenger side?

I'm going figure out a way to insulate the mechanism that does not impinge on it. It's pretty complicated and has to move on three different axis.

Not sure when I can get to it though:)

Well, I do happen to have my old bearings...

I'll pry one apart tonight, perhaps.

Asked dealer.. Dealer said got nothing to do call Ford.. Called customer service.. They point to dealer who points back to them... Had it.. Called Ford CEO (surprise when called main # asked for CEO Alan Mulally got an.. 'Ok hold' and got transfered directly to assistant voicemail..) got call back from a Lynn from their executive office who had plenty of tone and no assistance..
Total apathy... Nice co. culture.. Good going there Ford

I had the TSB done to the wrong side (because car mechanics are better than aircraft mechanics, I guess), so I have the original problem (passenger side, worse when cold) and now also the drivers side (not as bad, but give it some time).

What I have been noticing is that while there are not a whole lot of people complaining (in the grand scheme of things, and only referencing this site), almost all of us have the problem repeatedly regardless of the attempted fix.

Maybe this is a build date issue, vehicle (not just bearing/suspension) related...

Anticipate a large insult.

This is intriguing... I'm so done with this car but I can't afford to take the huge financial hit associated with trading it in (even at a Ford dealer). So done with Ford.

Crystal, where are you? My CSM has been avoiding me!!! I called her and left numerous voicemails but she's been slacking on the job! Help me out

I love the car, sooo glad I got a man trans, only beef is a few crappy parts (cheap floor mats, fuse box cover under hood latch broke) and the noisy suspension. I think a HUGE C/A lawsuit would wake up ford, who's game?
