Don't want to make this an oil debate.......

But from my experience WHENEVER I've put Quaker State in the SPI it is ALWAYS noisier than if I use Penzoil or some of the other major brands. Heavier weights don't seem to help the Quaker State either..... 10-30 or even 10-40 (I experimented). At Almost 180k miles I just buy what's on sale now...... $12 for 5 quarts of Quaker and Purolator filters for $1.50 at K-mart.

Replaced #4 Piston, Rings, Rod+Bearings, AERA Re-Manufactured Cylinder Head and a light Hone. Then CLEANED the hell out of everything.

Yeah, I've tried all the brands as well. Just stick to what ever is on sale in 5W20. Really can't tell any difference and with changing it every 3k miles, it's not in there long.

That thing sounds like a tractor. Kinda like my old sedan (Zetec) made when it had an EGR leak.

Have you considered that it's an EGR leak?

Mine makes the same sound on a cold start. After warm up it goes away. I don't mind it, just scares people when i start it up.
