As one of my friends has informed me double cluthching is launching off the starting line by revving your engine to high RPM's (varies from car i think around or below 6 for the SVTF) then letting of the clutch giving you a launch

Oh man that is soooo far off, there is the technique during road racing thats already been explained, and then theres the extra pump needed with older trucks(or cars) that have no synchros.

beating a dead horse

for the last time here it is. the idea is to match engine speed with trans shaft speed. to do this requires more than blipping a throttle. if you just keep the clutch in the trans shaft is not affected. it requires you to put car in nuetral first, then try to match engine revs to anticipated revs of trans shaft before shifting down. with practice this takes nanoseconds. in the race car i merely pull it out of say fifth and while heel and toeing rev engine then put in clutch and select the chosen gear. case in point summits main straight, one of two places on the ten turn course where i shift. as i approach the end of the straight i am running about 120 mph. with heel on brake and toes on gas i pull the car out of 5th gear while revving engine to about 7k. brake hard and simultaneaously shift to 3rd. thats a double clutch. repeat again going into turn 5. it just takes practice. for drag racing or street use nonessential. of course i'm always used to hearing ricers rev fuel injected motors up as if they were carbed, cammed motors that needed it.

Hmm, that's definitely NOT double clutching. That won't be much of a launch, either - 6 grand on an SVT is too much for a launch, when you pop the clutch you'll just spin the tire (yes, tire, not tires) like crazy. Anywho, like garyk said, double clutching is a complete waste for the vast majority of people driving manual transmission cars...

last beating

absolutely a waste of time and unnecessary wear and tear on car. once upon a time, back before electricity, transmissions did not have those little things called syncros. in fact two street cars i owned had non syncro 1st gears. then double clutching was needed. now many cars even have syncros on reverse. please moderator kill this thread.
