Turning off automatic AC settings?

Is there any way to turn off the automatic AC in the Max Cool setting and in defrost HVAC settings with manual controls/dials?

I hate running the AC if I don't want or need it.

It's a pain in the ass to have to be extra careful not to turn the temperature control the last nondescript click toward cool so as to avoid the MaxCool detent. I've pretty well given up trying so just turn to max cool, back one click, and turn off the AC manually.

And if I need AC while running the windshield vents I'll damn well turn it on myself.

BTW, I just turned in my best milage EVER, 41.6 MPG (11.4 gallons after 474.6 miles)! Not bad and I usually get close to 38 without too much effort and I'm not a slow driver, I just pay attention and coast in neutral when there's no reason not to.

Thanks much and happy Focus driving.

Well the a/c for defrost is to remove humidity and generall (every time in FL) is needed to de-fog the windows/windshield.

As for the max a/c why dont you simply leave it at the just above max a/c notch and manually turn the air on and off with the button, and use the fan to regulate temp?

He doesnt have auto a/c like we do, the manual ones have a nob if you spin all the way till its stops on the cold setting makes the a/c compressor come on, which this particular instance the owner doesnt want the coldest air like the setting is meant to have,

^This. The notch just clockwise of the Max A/C notch is the same temperature as Max A/C, but it allows you to control the compressor manually with the A/C button.

I believe that, unfortunately, the compressor is on when set on defrost regardless of what the A/C button indicates.
