Hey guys, seems like I'm in the same boat: I need to change the catalytic converter to pass emissions tests, but my auto repair shop doesn't seem to be able to find a matching one (and the Ford dealer apparently quoted him for $2000). So any advice on where to find a catalytic converter that would fit my 2002 Focus SVT?

Thanks!

$2000 is the price from ford. it sucks.

Now, does NY have the same nazi-ish rules on cats like CA does? You can talk to FSW/CFM/McNews and maybe top speed? about aftermarket cats for the car. They're under $400 iirc. They prolly aren't Carb/emissions legal.

EDIT: http://focus.c-f-m.com/cfm-cat-pipe-...svt-focus.aspx

thats the link to an OEM quality part. 2 weeks to build and ship. good luck!

Aftermarket cats generally don't pass emissions tests, beware of them if you really need to pass an emission test. Does NY use a real emissions sniffer or just use a scan tool to look at emission related PCM tests? My understanding is that most places now just use a scan tool to look at the PCMs self diagnostic tests, and if all the monitors (tests) pass, your car is emission compliant.

It actually might be cheapest and most effective to find some OEM cat from a low mileage junkyard vehicle and have it specially fitted to your exhaust, and then get the O2 sensors fitted. If you can find a place that won't rape you on prices, it should be far cheaper than an OEM replacement.

I sold my SVT cat with about 15K original miles for like $90. I feel completely retarded right now.

I'd just go with the CFM cat, that's what I have on my car now. I passed my emissions test with an ORP this year... no CEL and no inspections just a scanner.

I got a brand new OEM cat under warranty last year and the invoice priced it at $2500, it has 600 miles on it as it sits. Took it off to protect it and the O2's, if you know what I mean, and to get the ORP/HFC performance gain.

Hey guys, thanks for responses.

NYS is just a scan, plus the guy who's fixing my car is also the one doing the scan, so it will probably work. I contact Dominic and he quoted at $335 plus $15 shipping, which sounds quite reasonable.

I guess I'll square it off tomorrow with my mechanic and see what goes on. If you like, I can keep reporting on my progress. :)

The link I posted is of an EPA certified cat, mostly for CA cars...and its $500 compared to the $2000 from Ford.

If its just a scan, maybe the o2 sensors need replacement?

and $335 isnt terrible from Dom.

They already replaced the O2 sensors, but the engine light still lights up. So sounds like the catalytic converter does require replacement.

So I went to my mechanic today to show him the pictures from Dominic's site. Seems like my original converter is much flatter, so not sure if Dominic's would fit. Here's the picture I took off mine:

Is that what your converters look like? I am not the original owner of my car, but I seriously doubt that the catalytic converter was replaced in first couple of years and require replacement again. =/

We currently offer four differnet options for the Focus SVT.
1. A 50 State converter. This is the best for emissions. This one is made to order.
The other options are in-stock at the moment.
2.Our original high flow cat pipe uses 49 state converter.
3. Our street high flow cat pipe for someone that just needs emissions testing by obd-2 only.
4. The race high flow cat pipe for someone that does not require emissions testing.
