Fuel system bust
You won't believe this, but they had to replace my fuel tank system as well in my 2012 Ford Focus. I got stranded on the road 3 times due to this failure. The first failure came just 6 days after I drove it off the lot! Mine also said I had 45 miles left when it ran out...

My stealer erra dealer has had it 3 times so far. He has changed the sensor or so he says, re calibrated it, and replaced the instrument cluster. These pitiful attempts have failed. I have given them information about repairs that poisoncloud provided me. Called Ford Customer service all as I get is denial that there is any other Focuses out there with this problem. Ford customer service closed out the complaint before they even checked with me to see if it works. Now the dealer wants me to take a 500 mile road trip and perform some tests at a half and a 1/4 tank. I'm thinking 500 miles humm Maybe I could drive to Detroit and relieve myself on Henry Ford's grave!!

Same problem in Newfoundland, Canada
I have the same problem with my 2012 Ford Focus. Got the car Dec. 7/2011 and had to bring it back on Dec. 9/2011 with the same fuel gauge issue. They replaced the vacuum purge valve and it seemed to work for 2 days, then it went again. I filled the tank up completely then 1 hour later it showed a notch above empty. And I only drove the car 5km. Going back to the dealer again today and I hope they can fix it or they may be getting this car back.

Me Too!!!
I am having the same issue (plus additional headaches) with my 2012 Focus SE. Started with a check engine light that indicated small leak in the emissions system. Dealer diagnosed as leaking evap caister. Driving home from dealer, discovered that when they pressurized the system it caused some kind of issue that prevented me from adding fuel at anything faster than a trickle. ~2 weeks later my gas gauge started acting crazy. Stayed at full for unreasonable amount of time, etc.. Dealer finally replace the evap canister, was able to add gas, but gas gauge was still wonky. They had my car for a week, replaced the "sending unit" in the fuel tank, and said it was better, but different. They gave me a song & dance about an "anti-slosh" feature that has it reacting a bit differently than what I had been used to. I've had it back for 3-1/2 days & the check engine light just came back on. I am not a happy camper. Neither with my dealer, nor Ford. This is the first time in my life (I am 47) I bought a brand new car, and it's been a huge disappointment. I really love the way this car drives, handles, etc., but the problems are making me think Lemon Law & another auto-maker.

My gas gauge stays on full for the first 100 miles and then starts dropping,My previous Fords seemed to stay on full longer than they should have also.I understand your frustration about buying a new car and having problems with it,cars are very expensive and you would expect that they would get it right before production.I hope you get the problem resolved so you can enjoy the great mileage and ride that this car has to offer.I think I would also try a different dealer .You could PM the Ford service rep Natasha that posts on Focus Fanatics. Good Luck
