Can you turn on the yellow DRLs manually, like in most other cars?
What are "parking" lights?

This is the way they are supposed to be. Most states and provinces have laws stating that fog lights are only to be used IN FOG! This is because fog lights do not have a cutoff inside the light and can therefore shine into oncoming drivers eyes. Not to mention, they are not designed to be used constantly. The same goes for auxilliary "driving" lights. Those ones are designed to assist your highbeams by adding light thrown forward. Wiring them to be on at any other time is, bluntly, unsafe, as the light will shine directly into the eyes of oncoming traffic.

I'm getting bright red too my friend! Prior posts suggested having the DRLs turned on also turns on other items constantly. Wasn't sure if that's desirable

Bummer. I could set my 2003 corolla fog lights to turn on when my headlights do. Lame

Gotcha, good choice...biggest prob with DRL's is the issue of hot lights all the time lead to premature headlight fogging (cooking the lense)

It looks like they changed the DRL behaviour somewhere along the line. I've heard that original 2012s did turn on all the lights (parking lights, tail lights, etc.) all the time.

With my 2013, the DRLs are only the headlights at ~80% power. I leave my lights in auto and the rest of them come on when it gets dark, as you'd expect.

Now, it seems to be a crapshoot if the dealer can turn it on or not. For the record, I've been very happy with my DRLs (and would choose to have them w/ the autolights even if they weren't required by law).

I'm a little confused. So you mean that you had yours changed to "On" at a dealer and that it does not turn on everything for the 2013? Or that it's Off and just behaves differently stock from the 2012? Thanks for the insight.

I'm in Canada, so all Focuses have the DRLs turned on by law. In the US, the only Focuses that (can) come from the factory with DRLs are rental cars/fleet vehicles. Some people in this forum from the US have had their DRLs turned on by the dealership, but it doesn't sound like 100% of the dealers can/will do it.

I was comparing notes in this thread with another Canadian that has a 2012 SEL, and we found that the behaviour of the DRLs changed between 2012 and 2013 (from being everything on to just the headlights).
