There is a setting to turn the voice off on the navigation. All you get are the "bongs". I find this very helpful if I sort of know where I am going but I am not 100%. If I am going to a new place I leave the voice on.

The great hope with the automated manual was manual performance and economy with auto convenience. So ya' know, I've been shifting gears longer than most here have been alive, love manuals, but the wife and daughter steadfastly refuse to learn about a 3d pedal. I'm about equally weary of the SYNC system working when it feels like it, and the other small controls being out to lunch from time to time. I had a 300 mile trip the other week, and the cruise decided to take the day off. Question; do the SE and the SEL have the same automated manual tranny? They gave me a loaner while mine's in the shop (again) and, thus far, it has been flawless. No stumbling, no jerking, and in just the right gear. Also, does the SE have stability control? Moon |

My SEL very typically behaves like you've described the loaner, no stumbling or hesitation, but that's also been my experience in most of the 2012 Focus models I've driven in the past. Often I will still kick it over to manual mode because I want to put it into 6th gear or to prevent it from shifting quite as frequently at moderate throttle applications. It will however still override this and do a 6-4 or a 6-3 down shift should I decide I need to move quicker but don't shift it first.
