Did it a couple times and it kept beeping, but couldn't see why it was beeping. Then, when I got out of the car to lock it up, noticed the tail-lights were on, but the light switch was set to off. Had to start the car, then shut it off again.

Now is this a feature of some sort? Try flashing the lights (while off) and see if anyone else sees similar reaction. What kinda thing would this benefit???
I believe this is the manual way to turn on "follow me home."

Usually, "follow me home" keeps the headlights on for a determined time (that you configure) after you shut off the car, so that you can get to your door and open it.

If you pull the lever then I believe you have manually activated "follow me home" and will turn off after 30 seconds if you stay in the car or 3 minutes if you get out.

OK, I'm pretty sure that this isn't in the manual...

One thing I noticed while running cables to the trunk was the massive amount of sound deadening material (at least compared to my previous cars):

* There's a big thick layer of padding under the carpet in front, (I also noticed that the dead pedal area was just a wedge of styrofoam stuck under the carpet, ha)
* Probably not designed for sound-deadening, but under the first layer in the trunk there's about about a 1.5" layer of styrofoam (to match the height of the spare) but it has rectangles built-in that seemed to be designed to be cut out for audio equipment, my amp fit perfect in one
* Under that styrofoam layer, you can see various spots where vibration-damping material has been attached to the body
* In the rear wheel areas, in the trunk, beneath the carpet, you can see a large piece of foam inserted between the outside body panels

Explains why this car is so much quieter than my previous cars which had none of this nice stuff.

I had opened the hood and left it open but locked the doors.
I checked the oil level. walked away, did a few things then came back and when I closed the hood, the usual door closing lights blinked.

The car knew the hood was open! And responded to it closing with the 'all locked' lighting blink.
I am amazed.

Is this just the warning sound that your lights are on but the car is off? Flashing will just sound the start of the tone, but not the whole thing.

I don't think so. I'm going to follow up on an earlier comment that it may turn the headlights on for 30 seconds while you get inside. If that turns out to be the case, that would be very cool. Wouldn't use it though since my baby gets parked in a garage every night. ;-)

Yep, just tried it now, it's a feature.

Yes, its a feature. There's a short mention in the owners manual about it. You need to have the Autolamp option. The headlamps can be activated manually by pulling the high beam/flash-to-pass lever toward you. The headlamps are deactivated after 30 seconds or three minutes if any door is open.

I just pulled this thread up to say this... lol... I noticed that with the auto lamps on after the car turns off, you pull the turn signal lever and it turns the lights off, vice versa, it will turn the low beams on for the 30 secs or whatever, pretty handy.

I couldn't find this in the "owners manual" anywhere BUT every time I get in my Focus it makes me smile.

Every time I take it on the twisties it make me GRIN from ear to ear. :-D

Err...how? I can't turn on my foglights unless the headlights are on. The icon never displays and the foglights don't turn on.
