I plan to get some sort of coverage (at the very least, for the trans/engine). I'm going to shop around, but I'm look for probably 6yrs/ 100,000 miles. Nice thing is that my Insurance company offers extended warranties, and last I checked, they were very competitive with Ford's and other company's plans.

But, yes, I AM going to get one (i didn't though when I got the car, partially because I didn't know my trans was going to have the issues that everyone else talks about.. the shuttering, etc).

I see no issue with Ford's ESP. I want coverage if SYNC, climate control, or other non power train item fails. PLus, its pro rated and refundable for the amount you do not use.

It's prorated if you cancel, but (last I checked) there is also some fees you have to pay if you cancel. You'll still get back most of your warranty money if you cancel, but like I cancelled mine on my previous car (because some drunk decided to hit me apparently and destroy the 2010 Focus I had), and I got back about 80-85%, but had only "used" about 6% of the actual plan (i was on one of the 5yr/75,000 mile PremiumCare plans, and the car only had 4,500 miles on it at the time.)

But yes, at least you can cancel, but if you get it, and you sell the car, I think they are transferrable, and that can help boost the value of the car, especially as it ages.

Yep, it will probably end up being more of a selling point to try and sell instead of trade in, and "pay" and even bigger "fee" LOL!

Holy smokes, this should be a "sticky" topic. The online quote was $500 less than what I was agreed/going to pay the dealer, in 2 days when I take delivery of the car.
Hope they don't give me grief for changing my mind.....
Hate to be a cheapskate, but that's a big difference, especially since I am paying cash for the car as opposed to just rolling this into financing.

You mean you ordered the car and THEN did the online quote? I would review your purchase agreement to check for reasons they might end up being upset.

If you're paying cash for the car they ought to give you a pretty sweet deal, and when I did an online quote it was always about 750 higher than sticker price.

Oh, and welcome BTW...

In other words I already put down a deposit on a car in their lot today, but "taking delivery" and paying the rest Tuesday. The extended warranty and price is listed on the agreement I signed.

So I suppose in good faith, I should just bite the bullet and pay them. They are charging me $1395 for 5/100. It's like $800 online.

Just bugs me I bargained so hard for the car, then threw $500 away. Like I said, this is significant, wish it had been a top post and saw it earlier before I signed the promise to pay.

Ask if they will match the online price before you pay the rest out? Never been in that situation...I was refering to the price of the car when talking online quotes...I think the dealers have several ESP plans available, and combos of years/miles. I was charges 995 for 4/75K ( we plan on selling it around 75 K, which will be here in about 4 years for us...)

I extended my standard warranty at the time of purchase to 5 yr/ 48,000miles to at least cover the life of the loan. Plus, MFT makes me nervous should it go south so I wanted that covered. Cost me an extra $723 which I saw as worth it at the time.
