did you replace the airbox cover or has the filter been left open to the engine bay? If it open chances are really good that you will be sucking hot air from the engine bay. Which is of course the issue with a SRI without a heat shield.

The original post notes that the top indeed goes back on.

Thanks for the interest.

I second this

If you gents read through all the posts, which you should, you'd see there about two or three other people who've done it. Btw, is the gloss on the upper grille vinyl, or is that stock with tiers higher than the SE? Mine is all matte. Btw I'm likely going to do this. Your $100 price point, is that including that you bought two filters? Also, did you decide to put a prefilter on the hose? Seems like constant onslaught of bugs would buildup faster on that and a real threat of blockage.

Yes, and of those who have done it, only newmission actually kept it for an extended period and/or reported back results. Saying "I'm doing this!" and never following up is of exactly no help.

Well I'm going to try it and comment with results. I'm sure if it went horribly, I as well as most other people I assume would probably come back here to tell newmission to f off and tear the thread down. That hasn't happened yet, so either they've achieved time travel, died, are working on it still, or are revving their pants off and would rather drive than post back.

:: Edited to reflect the proper amount of smileys in "f off" ::

I didn't say I was worried about cars exploding because of this, I was asking if it was worth doing. Defaulting to an affirmative position on whether or not something works well when there is barely any evidence is idiotic. I have no reason to doubt newmission, but I certainly would like to have these results at least somewhat confirmed by more people prior to making warranty altering modifications whose results may or may not be replicable.

Good luck with your mod, please report back.

The gloss black I believe comes with the SE, if not base SE, then it must be another package that adds it. I have the Sport package on mine.

As for the $100, I'd have to go back and find what I was reffering to. I could have been saying this setup with save you $100s over a pre-fab CAI. And you get lifetime on the K&N! From word of mouth, it seems Steeda is keeping their filter in the engine bay, and may run some kind of fresh air feed to it. Much like this does.

My R&D was using a Fluke meter run inside the intake duct, but I have recently invested in a live read OBD2 scanner. I plan on doing more R&D with it, and getting hard numbers from the MAF itself. Will be fun.

The Piano Black grilles are a part of the Sport package. Standard SEs get the matte black instead.
