Service engine oil....check

Last changed my oil with mobile 1 extended performance and motocraft filter. I was aiming for a 7500 mile oil change interval at 25,000. I just hit 20,000 and saw the light illuminate on the instrument cluster. will these go off if the oil level is low? I may or may not have made a dragstrip appearance within that time frame. Spirited daily driving...mid rpm range mixed with slow daily driving as well. I just got back from west palm beach which is a couple hundred miles both ways.
I'm pretty sure I reset the oil service light with the last change.

Keyfob is dead to boot. Changed the battery and nothing. I'm hoping my car hasn't decided to turn into a Caroline.

How is the oil level?

I only had an oil light come on when more than a quart low.

Unless you mean the change engine oil message came on screen.

Correct, the change engine oil message came on the screen.

Finally had a chance to check the oil level. Right square in the middle of the level. Should I just reset and see if it comes back? I believe I did a 5-6k oil change interval last time and this one is currently only around 2500-3k. Which would put the two at 7500-9k miles. I need to find receipts.

Ive heard the oil service light is strictly mileage based. Has this been proven to be correct ? I'll reset before I go into work tonight and see if it comes back.

Sounds like the reset wasn't done.

Oil life is an algorithm based off mileage, fuel used etc. to estimate an oil change interval. Reset starts counting from scratch, so you need to reset when oil is changed for it to be any help at all.

I agree the oil reset was not done. That is all the problem is. Reset it yourself. It is easy to do. And seems to have zero connection to any useful oil life anyway.
IE it is a pile. A steaming pile.. That change oil light.
