I will honestly say I don't know how to answer that question anymore. Like, I might have been able to give you a clear opinion 5 years ago, but now...?

250+ hp 4cyl Focus or a 300+hp V6 Mustang...? Like, neither of those cars seem to fit the stereotype you've suggested. We know the V6 Stang is an incredibly strong performer. And all indications are this Focus will be a real pocket rocket.

True that the V6 Stang has some power but...The aura surrounding V6 Stangs has always been that they are for women. Not trying to dis the car but this is the first true decent V6 or smaller Stang (Not including the 84-86 SVO)

I think this sums it up pretty well. Now, someone might move up from a Focus to a Mustang, or down to a Focus from a Mustang, (if they are looking for something more practical) but I don't think most people are shopping these two disparate cars at the same time.

Also, with regard to the masculinity of the V6 Mustang, traditionally something like 2/3 of V6 sales are to women. The Mustang was known as a "secretary's car" back in the day. I doubt that will change. Yes, the new V6 Mustang is finally a decent car in it's own right... but I still think men looking for the manly-men image are going to be getting the GT.

ST will be much lighter, power to weight will be similar to the stang so they will be close in a straight line and i expect the st to handle better. So better performance, more room, better mpg. Only reason to get the stang is if you prefer rear drive and NA engines vs turbos imo. Also mustangs are too commom, i prefer something different.

I can't see a stock Focus ST running in the 13's. But the base model V6 with 331 gears can. So I would call the new V6 Mustang a sleeper. But if twisties is your thing the ST will be the best bet. My 2012 Stang is the base model and it is loaded with goodies. And the after market fot the Mustang is the biggest in the world. But this is like compareing apples to oranges. I am a die hard Ford guy so as long as you buy a Ford then all is right in the world.

DELETE! I was thinking of the V6 vs. the Focus Titanium when I said that.

But my 2012 V6 Stang runs like a scalded dog and gets great gas milage and puts a big ol smile on my face. So if I had to choose between the ST or the Stang....... I would go with the Mustang.
I daily drive the focus also. But I love my Stang!!

You may not get all the bells and whistles, but you do get almost twice the horsepower and the quickest 0-60 you could ever hope for for that kind of money.

I actually like the idea of sticking it to the car companies by buying a nice base model. I could really enjoy a base Mustang V6. It would be a blank canvas. But a base Focus? Probably not.
That's exactly what I did. I got the base v6 model with 6 speed mtx. The only thing I added from the factory was the performance package, which gives you 3.31 gears, GT and Shelby suspension components, GT exhaust, performance tune and special 19 inch wheels. Added sirius satellite myself. Funnest car I've ever owned.

Actually, I was in between the Mustang and Focus ST.
Reasons to pick the ST:
Should have better gas milage
More space
Better handling (especially in the winter)

Reasons to pick the Mustang:
Power
... It's a Mustang.

Id debate that handling thing. The new mustangs all have split rear-ends now, and they are making .96 lateral G according to most reviewers. In terms of handling, im willing to bet the ST and the mustang are near-identical.

Im a bit of a mustang hater, but even I am admitting that the new stang has some serious performance these days.
