Techincal name for manual tranny starter device

What is the name of the device that is activated when you press in the clutch to start your car ?

You know, when you have to have the clutch depressed all the way inorder to start your car.
What is that device/thing that gets activated to allow your car to start.

The starter starts the car, but I think you're thinking of the saftey switch that will only start the car with the clutch in; its so you don't start it in gear. I think its called a clutch saftey switch.

Huh, yeah, ATX's have something called the neutral safety switch to prevent starting in gear, and I know the part you're talking about on MTX's but the exact name of the part escapes me at the moment.

I just checked the service manual for my Toyota and they call it a "clutch start switch" but I dunno if that's a universal term for the part...

Back in my auto parts dayz, it was called a neutral safety switch for both auto and manual tranny's. Hope this helps.

You could remove the switch, but I wouldn't recommend it cause the computer will think your in nue all they time and end the party at 4000 rpm.

You must be refering to the clutch pedal positioning switch.

Thank's for the feeback.
He ended up calling the local auto parts store and told them he needed a "neutral safety switch " and they knew what he was talking about after he explained what it did. They don't stock them so it's gonna be a few days before they can get one in.
Anyway. Problem solved.
