My other Ford is an F350, not a Focus... So I'm modding it a touch.

One of the reasons I bought a Focus is for the economy, because I was, if wife's old 98 Saturn wasn't free, driving my F350 around burning a LOT of diesel. It's expensive to drive.

One way to add economy is to get lighter tire and wheel sets, so I'm putting on these tires:

Michelin X One XDN2 Tires
SIZE: 445/50R22.5
SIDEWALL: BW
SPEEDRATING: 0E
LOADRANGE: L (22 Ply)

I got a place custom making me a wheel with 8x200 bolt pattern and the correct offset/bore to replace my duals with this one wide truck tire. With the weights I'll be hauling compared to what they're engineered for, I can expect to get about 180,000 miles on this pair of rear tires. I am putting 22.5s on the front, too, with the same diameter but not nearly that width... These will be:

Michelin XZA3 Evertread Tires
SIZE: 275/80R22.5
PART: 26413
SIDEWALL: BW
SPEEDRATING: 0
LOADRANGE: G (14 Ply)

The're actually 1/10th of an inch different than the backs, but that comes to 1 rotation per mile or so, and I never 4x4 on pavement, so it's all good. I should get about 90,000 miles per set of these. 2 pair of these per 1 pair of rears.

While the new wheels and tires are heavier than the ones they replace, there's a net reduction in spinning wheel weight because I have 4 instead of 6. I also increase my tire width all around, and most importantly for economy, I'm changing the gear ratio (tire diameter to be effectively about 3.73 instead of 4.10. My Edge Tuner Chip has the ability to change tire size in the computer, so that all will be hunky-dory and the shift points will adjust. If I ever have to start up a real steep steep hill with the RV in tow, I'll just drop the transfer case into low range for that.

Today, I ordered super duper head studs for the diesel engine (a weakness on the 6.0 PowerStroke) and a Bulletproof EGR cooler (that's the actual brand name, EGR coolers are the other weak spot in that engine) and new gaskets for the top end due to the head stud and EGR change (high perf upgrades over OEM). My Diesel guy says when this is done, I should have a 23 mpg F350 (not towing, of course) that will pull anything I can get hitched to it. The enhancements and chip provide me with over 420 hp and right at 1000 lb/ft torque at peak with the chip on full boogie and no worries because of the upper end upgrades, and I think it will look real quirky with the duals replaced by a pair of superwide tires. Having the Focus frees me up to play around with the old truck a bit.

I'll post up pics on this thread as things happen.

The fronts about 200 each, the rears 300 each, and they're steelies, powdercoated. The rears are going to be 22.5x14.

I was reading what your wrote and I was thinking before I finished reading I was like how the f is that tire and wheel combo weigh less because I've picked up a few of those tires in my life and I would hope to never pick those things up again so f heavy but that makes sense, are you installing the head studs and egr? Or someone else Because I thought the whole cab has to be lifted off the frame to do such a thing

I'd also pull the cheap cruddy engine oil cooler out since your there & add Bulletproof's cooler also. I've done plenty of 6.0L's & I hate throwning the stock crap back in since your right there. 1/2 the customers w/ go for the upgrades. I've had plenty of cabs hanging overhead. You should have closer to 500hp. My Amarillo is faster then yours. Glad you did the bulletproof upgrades. For I've been doing those for yrs now. I love the 6.0L's. The rockers don't look that good, but they work. Bedplates are easier then the 6.4L. Back covers are the same w/ either. You should get mid 20's when your done, once you get use to the grunt & stay out of it. LOL

That's not bad for custom wheels of that size.

Problem. 22.5s won't fit under the fenders (tire diameter 40.40 in., the fenders would only clear about 39 inches, 38 to be safer.

I have to decide what to do. I could chop fenders (big money) or find another way to do this thing. I really wanted those 40 inchers. Grr.
