2012 Focus - no engine cover ?

The one with the hole is so that there is something that actually holds the cover down (just a nut) instead of it just popping onto the posts. If mine didn't have the extra hole, I can guarantee you it would have fallen off already due to the crappy job I did putting the posts in.

Hello All!

Not sure if this info has already been posted, but a Ford rep told me the following after I posted a question:


...heard back from Engineering, nothing was noted on the technical side, as a reason for it being eliminated. Looks like it was stopped as of Job 2 for the 2012s. A Decision appears to have been made in marketing to remove this feature from the vehicle.

Unfortunately the Ford rep had the wrong answer yet again, it was removed from production sometime in May 2011, which was firmly in Job 1 2012 build territory, not 3/5/12 or later which was the start of Job 2 production for 2012.

For what it's worth - mine was a build 5/24/2011 (according to the ETIS website) but I could've sworn my door sticker said 5/16/2011 or something. Anyway, the ETIS website says I'm supposed to have an engine cover, but it didn't come with one. So they stopped sometime before my build date.

My dealership contact says 5/16/11. This was the information I was given when I asked about the engine cover.

SSM 21897 - 2012 FOCUS TITANIUM MODEL ENGINE COVER
THE ENGINE COVER FOR 2012 FOCUS TITANIUM MODELS HAS BEEN ELIMINATED IN PRODUCTION AS OF 5/16/11.

5/11 is firmly within the bounds of Job 1 2012 builds.

My build date is 5/10/11 and I do have an engine cover.

As I posted elsewhere, it's disappointing that Ford to the cheap route with this omission. My 2005 Excursion came without an under hood insulator blanket and light. 50k vehicle and they didn't even finish it. Please...
