DCT Clutch issue

I've had my Focus Titanium since August 2011 and have since put a little over 30k miles on it. No issues with the DCT...until last week. Noticed there was a little 'slip' in the gears between 1st - 2nd and after a couple days it seemed to get worse so I took it into the dealer to have it checked. The Service Manager later called and said the clutch was bad and that this was a common problem with the DCT.

I've seen many threads on the DCT 'shudder', but has anyone else had to have their clutch replaced?

(The positive is that they provided a 2013 Escape SEL, which has been interesting to drive, but really makes me miss my Focus!)

Did they say WHY the clutch is bad?

I've only seen them replaced for leaking seal issues.

There have been others who had the clutch packs, entire transmission replaced and the issues came right back.

Basically this fix is this:

Got the car back and it's running probably better than it ever has. Gear changes are smooth as butter. I'll post the parts they changed out this weekend so you can see what was done.

They reported they broke the seal as they were putting it back together, so they had to replace that which took an extra day. As result, they went ahead and replaced all my fluids and even detailed the car for me. They will get a good rating on the survey for sure.

A clean, detailed car always runs better.

I hope it's fixed, but usual case is not so.

Mine has the shudder you describe. I have about 23k on my Focus. Took it to the dealer about a month ago and they said they didn't feel anything. At the time it was off and on. Now it seems constant. Everything else about the car has been pretty good. I think using a DCT was a mistake by Ford. I'd rather give up a mpg or 2 to have a normal, smoother transmission. Well at least I have the problem on record now, so when it tanks I can have it repaired under warranty.

They did the job correctly? The first time? And stopped to correct a mistake? AMAZING.

The dealership I went to made a mistake, too... but they didn't correct it... they just made it my problem. My clutch was replaced I was left with a car that vibrates every time it shifts to gears 2, 4, or 6. Ford Customer Service has been no help at all and my car is still screwed up after numerous dealership visits.

The last dealership it was at called me a couple days after my appointment to ask how the car was doing, and I told them that it was too early to say, and told them to call me back in a week or two.

That was over a month ago.
