Hmmm wondering. These things have a battery in them right? So if you replace the battery down the line, will it have to be reprogrammed again at the dealer?

It is supposed to have a 10 year life.

Edit: I am wrong. Just looked at the instructions that came with mine - it does not have a replaceable battery. When the battery goes, you replace the whole unit. It will tell you; it says "If you unlock the door with the keypad and the locks cycle on additional time, it is time to replace the unit. The battery is not replaceable." There are a bazillion of these things on the road, they have been on Ford vehicles for a long time...I bet they outlast the car.

No, it comes with programming instructions. You need to have all your fobs handy when you program the keypad or they will no longer work after you program the keypad. (You program them in sequence)

When I was thinking about buying a keypad from ebay, I was concerned about battery life too. I read on some other forums (usually on Ford Escapes) about keypad owners that were successful in prying the top of the keypad from the bottom to replace the battery. The problem was that if the screwdriver or pry tool they used slipped, they scratched the heck out of their doors.

Just had a rental Lincoln MKX with the IA and the keypad option on it. I didn't bother to try to program anything (since it's a rental), but did lock the car using the last two buttons together, and it did lock the car.

If it works for the MKX, why can't they make it work on the Focus?
