AC Compressor Not Functional

Has anyone experienced when on defrost setting and ac button I can't hear compressor kick in. It's - 20 C and windows aren't defogging as well as they should be.

My 2014 did that from new. It was debris in the lines from the factory. Fords quality control failed for me.

Just saying this should be posted in the problems section and not here.

But no, that's never happened to me. Not normal, get it looked at.

In any car, the a/c compressor does not operate at ambient temperature below freezing. So what you're experiencing is normal a/c operation. Just as a thought, are you sure your climate control isn't inadvertently set to "recirculate?

You are partly right. It's not across the board on any car, nor is ambient temp below freezing the limit. MOST cars these days are set up to not engage the ac compressor in cold weather. The exact temp depends on make/model, and a lot do this a good bit above freezing, like in the 40's F.

I thought that since about 2000 (or when they switched to the R134) that the compressor engaged with the defrost mode to act a little like a heat pump for a little quicker heat and also to lubricate the seals in the compressor.

Wait what? I thought it was part of normal operation you can't have the windshield defrost on at the same time as A/C. .. I've never been able to flip on the A/C with defrost...

from what I've read on defrost/defog settings you shouldn't have to turn a/c on it comes on automatically acts like a dehumidifier
