Congrats on making Upper Mental Group by 7 points. You will now have more options open job wise. I would like to give you a bit of advice. Choose your job wisely, think about what you want to do if/when you get out. Missile electronics maintenance sounds sooooo savvy and technical, but how many folks do that in the real world. Plan for the future. Also, if they offer an enlistment bonus, turn it down and take the college fund, pays off better in the long run. You will have the GI bill and 100 percent tuition assistance while on active duty, so that's covered. The college fund will actually help you out a lot more.
Good job on making E3 before basic. If you get a chance, practice marching. Your recruiter(if he's good) should have you coming to meetings. At these meetings, you should learn how to march. Learn your rank and insignia as well. Soak up as much info as you can about the Army before you go.......educate yourself. Maybe if you're close to some ffers that are in the Army, have them show you a few things. Knowing what a preparatory command and an execution command is going to move you ahead of the pack. Don't try to compare branches or pay, it's all the same. Have pride in yourself and the United States Army. Good Luck to you.
UT1(SCW)
USN

P.S. If you choose a job and they don't have it available, walk. Wait for it to be available. (Recruiters everywhere just cringed)

Cool, you've got a great junkyard, I live in Kaiserslautern. If you see a sterling gray 2012 hatch at Ramstein It's me.

snipped out a bit to get the good stuff...

X2
not sure if GI bill is automatic or voluntary but contribute to it, I did not and now I wished I had.

figure out you want to do , don't go into something you don't want because that is all they have..... they may tell you well you could switch later... never happens...

plan to stay in for the long haul.. its a good gig.. i got out after 9 years and tried to get back into the reserves a few years ago, my hearing went south and i could not get back in.

GI bill is 100 a month for one year. It pays out around 38k for college, which isn't that much, but it helps. Look up info on military.com, do your homework

I don't think they have to pay for the GIB any more. I paid the standard $1200 along with a $600 kicker a few years later, hell of an investment!

I'm in the MP Corps. Don't do it.

All the MP Corps is now is glorified infantry. Especially with the Army handing all the Law & Order MP jobs over to the DoD Police. Sooner or later, there will be no L&O MP's.. it'll all be Combat Support.

I know I joined the MP Corps to do POLICE stuff.. and now if/when we deploy, we'll be running convoy security, or sitting on gates/checkpoints. NOT what I signed up to do. But it is what it is now.

And Basic? Pfffft. Basic is a cake walk. Especially now. It was cake in 09 when I went through also but I've heard it's only gotten easier.

EDIT: I just now read the above post and saw you're not MP.. lol. So disregard most of my post.

I was in Baumholder for 4 years...I loved it and miss it every day.

OP - Pretty much what everyone else said. BCT is all what you make it, as with anything in life. Good luck!
