my radio/headunit is not working

When I bought the car 3 weeks ago the radio had a bunch of _ _ _ _ _ at the bottom of the screen and would not do anything else. since owning it I have disconnect the battery a and cleaned a few grounds, now the radio is just dead, nothing, I checked the fuse and it seemed fine. I will double check the fuse again.......any thoughts of how to solve this. I called Ford and they told me the Focus did not need a radio code. I believe I looked at the OM online and thought it did need a code. if I need a code any idea how to get one......all feedback is encouraged.

Focus radios from that era do not need any codes to work. Sounds like you bought a car with a bad radio and it finally died. If you bought it from a dealer of some type you may have a chance of getting them to fix it.

Hey Woody, is it the multi disc CD player. If so that little strip at the top is a security plate . And it will come out so no one can use that stereo if stolen. But on mine the tab that holds it in all the way broke. and the unit would not turn on. So check that , push on it inward to see if you get any thing...

Should I be able to go to the junk yard and pull a radio from the same generation focus and install it no Problem?

pull the stero and check for a power with the key off and 2 powers with the key on. and make sure that there is a ground there. if all the signals are there then get a radio.

the JY sold me a radio/cassette from a 2000 for $20. I hooked it up and it seems to work fine. the unit I took out was pretty busted up. the security strip was messy and taped all together. the radio itself had a broken left side bracket that held it in place/ they had duct tape every where.......the new unit looks perfect but one of the lights at the clock looks like it is out..........all in all it is fine......I am a talk radio guy anyways........thanks again for your help......for any future members...the back of my 2 radios looks different. the connections are in different places but they are the same conections......
