I'm not leaving any oil in my car over 3000 miles....much less a year even with synthetic. I will change my first oil at 500 and get all the break in material out of the pan. Then change it again at 2500. At every 2500-3000 miles my oil is drained. Might be a waste of money to some but to me it is peace of mind.

I change my own oil anyway so I can do two oil changes as cheap as someone paying to have theirs done once. I have an '86 Mustang GT that when the original motor came out and was still running at the time, it had 266,000 miles on it. I drove it very hard and when it was torn apart it was absolutely pristine.....no sludge and clean as a whistle. My '98 Escort that I am still driving today has 210,000 and still gets 32 mpg and does not drink a bit of oil. Not trying to change anybody's ways of servicing their car but that is how I take care of mine.....to some it might be a waste of money but to me it just works.

While I agree that changing your own oil is cheaper, how do you get around the problem of storing it? At least where I live, hazardous waste day is only once a year, so I would need to keep it in my garage for a year, then pay to get rid of it...

In Texas most places recycle it for you for free. In my garage I have a small galvanized round tub that I put oil dry in the bottom of. Then I put a 5-gallon Ozarka jug into the tub. (this is just in case the jug cracks or breaks, however I have used the same jug for 8 years.) What I do is pour all my used oil into the jug. When it fills up after 4-5 oil changes I cap it, put it in the truck and drive over to Wal-Mart.

So far I have not had any issues with VHR. I have run 3 of them in just under a year, even with visually lower front tire pressure it does not say needs air/nitro in them....

I ran the VHR on mine and it shows the same thing, that my brakes need urgent attention. However, the message also indicates that it may be that the parking brake was set (which is likely since I ran the report while parked, duh). I'll need to try re-running it without using the parking brake as I'm pretty sure my brakes are fine.

My dealer charges $15.00 for oil and filter change. I can't buy thye materials for that. As for used oil. Advanced Auto will take it for free if you buy your oil there. I'll be changing about every 5,000.

If any of you are getting a wring about brakes, PLEASE go to your dealership.
I had a 2012 with a leaking brake caliper

Hopefully all is well with your cars. But its better to be safe than sorry

I ran a VHR while I was driving around in my apartment complex parking lots. Nothing unusual to report, everything is fine. 750 miles on the odometer.
