ball joint problems

Long story short. I was lowering my car and ended up tearing both ball joint boots. I've been to the dealership and they aren't selling just the ball joint boot. They can only offer me the whole control arm, which is $180 a piece. So, I looked at all the local parts stores to see if I could find a boot off any other ball joint that would work. I've had no luck there either. I looked at the couple of local salvage yards, and no luck there. If anyone can steer me in the right direction or might happen to have some boots I'd greatly appreciate it.

Sounds like you'd have to buy the ball joints to get the boots. You should be able to get the the ball joints by them selfs, not at the dealer thou. Hit up http://rockauto.com Checkout Motorcraft also.

I also forgot to mention that the ball joint is incorporated into the lower control arm as a one piece design. So there isn't just a ball joint I can buy.

RockAuto.com shows just the ball joint you can buy, you have to drill out the rivets in the control arm and work quite a bit to get the joint itself out. its a bit labor intensive and would be much much easier to replace the entire arm but of course that cost quite a bit more.

Get just the ball joint, use a hammer to insert it into the control arm, the mechanics do it this way here
