In fairness to Ford, there's a good chance you just ended up with the one randomly bad part out of tens/hundreds of thousands. Not that it's not annoying to have to get it fixed but that's what the new car warranty's for, after all.

Reliability

I just ordered a 2013 Focus ST and the only reason I have made this post is that Ford makes pretty good vehicles. I see other members touting their Asian cars and I have had a 1996 Escort last me 212,000 miles which I sold to a friend that drove it for another 40k and my current 2003 ZX2 has 204,000 miles on it and is still a nice car. I again will sell it when my Focus comes in. I really feel bad for all of the Focus owners that have problems with their Focus's and I hope that Ford gets it together and fixes their cars. Then maybe they will get close to the mileage I have had with my little Ford cars.

Like TiPilot stated, people are bound to experience a bad part here and there. It is just how it goes when you have a thousand different companies making different parts. Ford does produce some of their own parts, but is really just the assembler. So it really depends on the acceptable level of quality that the decide on.

I have experienced this "shudder" as well. With the 2012 Ti that I received in August last year, and now again with the replacement that I received the other week. I have found that after 2,000km (1,200 miles) or so it works it's self out. Funny enough, it's the one thing that i have not had to go back to the dealership to get looked at. I want to love this car, but every day there is something new that happens that makes me want to destroy the damn car. Anyway... I am sure that the "shudder" will work itself out.

This is not the thread to talk about how good your tranny is. It causes hard feelings. Mine is good and many others are ... and there are threads with happy Focus owners.

A warranty is fine and dandy but my particular Focus has been in the shop for a total of SIX WEEKS since I took delivery 9 MONTHS ago.

In 13 YEARS my '99 Accord spent ONE DAY in the shop for something other than regular service items.

...and my 2012 has been in 4 times for bad parts. 1st it was bad strut towers making noice when turning wheels (or at least that's what I was told). 2nd time was for recall for bad wiper motors (everyone got that TSB), 3rd was the engine cooling fan malfunctioned causing check engine light to come on and now the 4th time is for the right front barring. That's counting the 2 times I've had it in for regular maintenance and they've done flash updates to the computer. Then don't get me started on the MyFord Touch Sync.

Surely you're not serious!? How are going to visually inspect the barrings before taking delivery? Do you break down the whole car and put it back together before you buy a car? I'm beginning to see who knows what they're talking about on this forum and who's blowing smoke...lol

That's exactly how I feel! I love the look of the body style and the 38 MPG. I just want the car to be fixed once and for all so I can enjoy it. But at the rate there is no way I'm keeping the car past my extended warranty period!
