"Transmission malfunction, service now"

There are so many posts...I'm not sure if this issue has been addressed yet:

My transmission, on two separate occasions, suddenly slipped out of gear and I could not shift at all. Fortunately I was traveling at low speeds on side streets both times where I was able to pull off to the side of the road, stop and put the car in Park. But once I did that I was not able to shift out of Park. I turned off the engine, started it again, and still could not shift out of Park. At this time I received the message on my screen "Transmission malfunction, service now". It took two more times of restarting the engine before I was able to shift into Drive and get home safely.

I ultimately had to have my car towed to the dealership where they are currently trying to diagnose the problem. Does anyone have any experience/feedback on this issue???

I wish I would have found this forum before I bought my 2013 Ford Focus. I now have 10,000 with at least half of those highway driving. The transmissions still seems hesitant or is missing. I am afraid to pull out from stop signs unless I have PLENTY of room. And where I live, that is a rare luxury.

I do not have the rattle or grinding that a lot of you describe. But definitely the jerky shift. Mine seems to be from 2nd to 3rd as the most common.

I did complain about transmission when I had it at the dealer for an oil change. And yes, they printed out and handed me that stupid "break in" paper. Told me it drove fine.

Anyhow, I'll keep complaining about it. I guess I go back to Chevy after this car. I only switched to Ford because they didn't need the bailout. But it's definitely not worth the headache nor the fear when pulling out.

Took me a while to figure out pos. :)

I want to know why the Focus did so well in reviews. And I did not notice any of the trans problems during my test driving.

I think thats unfair. Ford is a very large world wide automaker with millions of happy customers

I think all thats happening here is a terrible response to a limited problem on one transmission.

I don’t think it is. I feel that Ford made the quick financial decision to rush the Focus and its crap transmission to production before proper testing and R&D. Knowing full well that they would have problems, but choosing how to deal or not deal with them down the road. You see how this has been handled.

TOTALLY UNEXCUSABLE!!!!

Just my $.02 to each their own…..

I think the DCT problem has been handled egregiously and continues to be but one very bad decision on a defective transmission does not make a complete bad company.

I once had a 1990 mustang 302 GT with factory go fast parts and its my favorite car of all time.

My point isn't that the trans suck just because it does. I feel that it sucks because of the financial decision to rush it production before it was ready, and Ford knew damn well to. The way its being handled is another great example of poor financial decision being made by Ford in the name of corporate greed and incompetence.

Transmission noises

well I wanted to post on here and ask what everyone else has done. I am in Halifax Canada and just bought a 2012 focus titanium sedan and have the same conditions. I will be taking into Ford tomorrow.

There are 30,000 km on this car now so I assume it should be 'broken in' already
