I had at least 2500 miles logged on my Focus when I finally noticed how well the trans responded. Especially from stop to go.
With this trans it's helpful to practice accelerating from stopped position. The trans reacts to the pressure applied to the gas pedal.
Thanks....I'll give it more time. I just want to get rid of the rattle.

Hey guys i'm new to the forum. I just picked my focus up last week I really enjoy this car. But at 300 miles noticed the transmission (stuttering / grinding at times) from stop to go. Thats what led me to find the forum to do a little research. I took the car into the dealer yesterday where they uploaded a recall from transmission and abs software update. I will say that the drive home from the dealer it seemed to shift just fine. I plan on giving it a little time before I can say that the recall (software update) fixed the problem. Now have 405 miles on the car.

I hope it works out for you. I don't have a DCT, but I think lots of the problems are due to design differences between hydraulic ATs and DCTs. This was the complaints with VW Autosticks, and early Hondamatics too.

Remember how you might just let off the gas to coast forward with a hydraulic AT? That doesn't work with a DCT- it will cause stuttering and near stalling just as if you tried to idle forward in a manual transmission car with the clutch out. Try driving without floating your foot off the gas pedal. Either be on the brake or on the gas, but float over neither. I explained this to a girl from NJ, and suggested she try driving like a teenager- get on it! Anyway, that solved all her DCT problems.

Of course, there are other problems, and some of those cause the same symptoms, but driving with this method of being on one or the other pedal should prevent stuttering that is not evident of a larger problem. As far as larger problems go on this board, the worst I've seen is a bearing failure, but if you had that- you'd know it.

Shift problem

Just got home from a 130 mile run to see what the car would. Traveled both stop & go and interstate. I want to teach the car about how I drive, and for it to teach me how it wants to be driven.... It is a learning experience, right?
When I got close to home and was in city traffic, the trans did the "lunge" thing several/many times. I also have the grinding noise. I now have 1200 miles on the car. I just want it to shift correctly.

No, I didn't give him an infraction although I asked nicely and then he took it all the wrong way. That's fairly normal though people on forums are like 14 yr old divas sometimes.

Other than that I love my car and it does drive really nice and everything else is okay...

Congrats on buying a new Focus! Give it about 1,000 miles to break-in. I'm currently looking into all transmission feedback. If it doesn't improve in this timeframe, please PM me your VIN, mileage, phone #, and dealer info; I'll send this to your region's Customer Service Manager. In the meantime, please use these to save money on future service: http://owner.ford.com/servlet/Conten...iceCouponsPage.

Totally agree with these comments!

Welcome to Focus Fanatics, good sir! Keep an eye on the quality of your transmission. Please get in touch with me by PM (include your VIN, mileage, phone #, and dealer) if you notice any changes. Remember to grab and flaunt this badge: http://social.ford.com/grab-a-badge/focus/yes/.

We recommend giving it an 1,000 mile break-in period.

Thanks for keeping me updated on these transmission issues. Iím currently documenting all feedback and will be forwarding it to our rep very soon.

Take care,

Thomas

Issues with 2012 Focus 6 speed Auto Tran

Received my 2012 Focus SEL Hatch with the 6 speed Select Shift Auto Tranny this past June 20, 2012. Experienced a little jerkiness and hesitation at lights and stop and go traffic for about the 1st 200 miles of driving. This seems to be resolving itself as most of this is no longer present. It's a great car and I really enjoy driving it. Have about 350 miles on the car now and it rides real smooth. I would recommend this car to anyone.
