Ok, so I disconnected the center speaker in the dash, and I have to agree, it made a big difference. My complaint was "muddy" sound at higher volumes, much cleaner now, and no downside. Was shocked at how small the speaker was. Thanks for suggesting this, cheap fix! Now I want better speakers!

So is there an easier way to do this then pulling off the dash?!? Id love to do a proper A/B comparison but dont want to scratch up my panels or break any clips yanking the dash......

It's just the grill in the center of the dash that you have to remove. I used a trim tool, but really a flat blade screwdriver and a little care will get it done without issue. There are spring clips, but they popped out easily, especially after you get it started. Mine went right back into place and you can't tell it was ever out.

Hey everyone. My Ford Focus 2012 only has 2 tweeters, 2 small subs on the front, and a pair of two way speakers in the back doors.

I was thinking to get a new component for the front doors (better quality) and get the ones in the front, in the back.

What do you think? Do I need an amplifier as well?

No Sony. It's the most basic deck.

From my experience, and reading another's post about how bad upgraded speakers sound with the basic deck (which I ignored), do not upgrade the speakers without an amp or replacing the deck. It sounded absolutely awful. I thought the replacements were defective it was so muddy.

I'm almost finished upgrading my basic 6 speaker setup (same as yours) with an amp, LOC, new door speakers and a sub. I'm going to post a new thread with pictures of each step, and how it all sounds.

Best of luck!

Cheers. That would be great actually. Did you changed the deck after-all?

Nope, I wanted to keep the Sync functionality, ability to control my phone, etc. so I kept the stock head unit. From a quick wiring test without buttoning it all back up, it sounds great.

Yeap sounds like a good solution. I don't want to get messy by changing the deck either. Even though i hate the head-unit I'm not sure whether its a good idea to changed the whole thing...
