What about springs? Also I found a set of Kumho R-compound tires, would those be too overkill? because my friend was going to sell me the set for 200 bucks.

Also what about safety equipment? and more supportive seats?

TIRES...yes, buy those Kumho's right away. I think tires are the most important autocross mod, and if you left everything else stock you'd be surprised at how good of a fight you could put up against your competition.

My recommendation is to do that first, drive it as is, and see if you really think you need other mods. Autocross isn't about the car--it's about the driver.

Very true...I ran completely stock and beat a full race preped miata...and a Scion TC with some bolt ons and suspension. My first time out in the car.

I don't feel new drivers should start with r-comps. A street tire will teach that smoothness counts most to go fast. They will help beat other novice drivers but learning how to be smooth will help you compete with the top drivers when your ready for a set of r-comps.
