New Volvo wheels for my 2012 SE Hatch

Although we are very happy with our 2012 SE 5-door hatchback, there was one thing really bugging me about the car - the steelies and hubcaps. Here is a shot of me taken at Thompson Raceway with the stockers still on the car -

Since Ford switched to a different lug pattern for the 2012's, wheel selection isn't great yet. I considered going with something from TireRack, but instead I went a different route in search of wheels that looked factory installed. To minimize my cash outlay, I also wanted to re-use my factory 16" tires.

I used eBay to search for wheels that had the same 5x108mm lug pattern as the 2012's. There are quite a few actually, but I didn't want to spend high $$$ on wheels orignally worn by expensive European luxury cars. There seemed to be a wide selection of Volvo wheels without the high price. I noticed that one of the ebay sellers was located less than an hour from where I was headed for a Mustang racing event that weekend, so I called and spoke with Becky at Blackburn Wheels, who was very helpful. We set up a loose appointment for that Saturday so I could drive over in the Focus and test fit certain wheels to make sure they fit the car. My concern was having enough wheel clearance around the calipers. So I went out to Blackburn, and test fit the wheels in their parking lot. I bought the two they had in stock, and agreed to getting two more shipped to me the following week. I also realized that the shoulders of the factory Ford lug nuts were too large for the recesses of the Volvo wheels, so I needed to buy new lug nuts that were more narrow (wheel lugs for the 2012's have a M12-1.5 thread).

The wheels came arrived in fine shape the following week -

Then I painted the Volvo center caps -

This week I got the factory tires and TPMS sensors swapped over to the new wheels. Here are the results -

I think they look ALOT better than the factory steel wheels/caps! Next up will be to paint the rear brake drums. I also plan to have the windows tinted.

looks good!

just another comment, I would shy away from painting the drums. It will be come a maintenance issue and right now they don't look too bad. If it were me I would wait till they start to look weathered.

Thanks guys! Another reason I picked these particular wheels is due to their simple design. It should be very easy to clean them up, whereas some designs with their little nooks & crannies are a nightmare to keep clean.

Are the TPMS sensors the valve stem type or were they straps?

They were the valve stem type, but my installer said that they needed the rubber TPMS Service Valves (@ $7.25 each) for the new wheels.
