Take a nice drive through Apache Junction to Hwy88 aka The Apache Trail. Extreme east valley of Phoenix/Mesa.

AZFocus2012, where would be a good place to meet up before heading up the mountain? We need someone that's familiar with that area to make a suggestion.

I would say here (see map). I used the Village Inn just for reference on google maps. There is a large, underutilized/empty, parking lot there for the adjoining strip center. You can expand the map and see it is right next to Hwy88/Apache Trail. Just take the Idaho Road exit or the Ironwood Drive exit off of the 60 and head north. Or there is a Wal-Mart SuperCenter with a large, underutilized 1/2 empty, parking lot about 1 mile west of there on the south side of the Apache Trail.

You can select google earth in the upper right for the satellite view.

Ok I would be down for that cruise. For all of us on the west valley we need to figure out where we are going to meet then cruise up there to meet everyone else.

Just some info for the unfamiliar, parking at Canyon Lake public use area is like the Salt River, fee required unless you have a Tonto Pass. Parking is free at the Canyon Lake Restaurant and Cantina. Not my favorite stop. Two miles up the road is Tortilla Flats, a better stop, link below. I would definitely recommend continuing 4.7 miles past Tortilla Flats to the end of the pavement. The pavement is much better past Tortilla Flats. There is a fairly good sized dirt turnaround at the end of the pavement, a possible group photo shot location.
