Still have issues with mine. Ford refuses to send a field engineer and claims the vibration is normal based on the dealer comparing my car to like cars that I wasn't given the opportunity to see. Frankly, I suspect there was never a comparison made.

I noticed that I can temporarily stop the issue with a shutdown and restart of the engine.

Funny that this is Ford's response when the service manager told me my idle was definitely not normal when I demonstrated the issue.

I think I may meet the lemon law and will likely go that route.

My 13 Mtx idles a little rough on occasion. I looked at the 13 book and it doesn't mention anything about running higher octane for better performance. I'll be driving to Charlotte here in a couple weeks. Around 7 hrs. I'll fill it full of premium before I leave and check my mileage. I don't see me getting 36 here in the mountains. I was blaming it in this crappy winter mix fuel.

Hi xspeedy,

I want to arrange for a follow-up call from your regional customer service manager. Send me a PM with your current mileage and your preferred daytime phone number. I'll get the ball rolling.

Crystal

My car has 840 miles on it now and I've been noticing a rough idle. Will this lessen as time goes on or...

Mine did. 840 miles is WAY too early to be jumping to conclusions.

You never know with these cars (as I'm coming to find) people say the grinding doesn't go away, the clunking of the suspension doesn't go away... I figured maybe this didn't either.
Glad to hear that it went away for you, not sure I'd do anything about it if mine doesn't go away anyways, I was just curious/hopeful.
Thanks!

It took a long while. It didn't go away completely until near 10K miles. As I mentioned in another thread, at that point I was familiar with what fuel my car likes, and I started using synthetic oil. My impression was that the change to synth seemed to have the biggest impact on my idle.

Hmm, I wonder if I can upgrade my Ford service plan to full synthetic (I believe its semi-synthetic now or they say it is). It came with the car purchase and I don't want to waste it. What gas did you find works best, 93? Or did that not make enough of a difference.
Thanks!

Hey, sorry for the late response--I just saw this after browsing some old posts...

I haven't found that octane really has an effect on smooth idle, though it does have an effect on drive-ablility, performance and MPG (to a small extent). In my experience, fuel brand has affected my idle. Mine seems to like the fuel I buy at the local Phillips 66 stations more than others... YMMV I've always liked Chevron best but, unfortunately, it's not available in my area of the country, so I haven't been able to try it in this car.

Like I stated though, I didn't achieve a consistently smooth idle until about 10K miles, so I think a complete break-in was a large factor.

I have a 2013 with 4,200 miles on it. I noticed the rough idle at about 4,000 maybe even before that but wasn't sure if it was actually a problem. I started a thread asking about it and someone told me to change the grade of gas I use. So instead of regular, I upgraded to the next grade up. I think it made a noticeable difference but I still have an idle. Hopefully this problem with eventually work itself out.
